The Games Begin
Starting September 18, 2000, the teachers on the Sharks Team hosted  Olympic Games, Mt. Holly style.  Most of the preparation and activities took place daily through Connections.  Each of the nine teams (7-9 students) studied a specific character trait and  reported on its importance to Olympians and middle school students.  The teams also selected a team mascot and name, created a flag/badges, and created a team roster for team competition.

Decision Badgers

Decisiveness defined: that settles or could settle a question or argument

An Olympian needs to make all the right decisions by striving to exercise daily, eat the right foods, get long hours of sleep, and also they have to be able to go out on the floor to compete against others to make good scores.

Students need to make all of the right decisions by doing their homework to make good grades, also they need to study for tests, and try their best on everything to make all good grades on report cards.

Sharing at Olympic Opening Ceremonies

During opening ceremonies, reporters from each team shared their finding with all the Sharks.

Throughout the entire week students cheered their teams during each event.  Statisticians kept team scores using an integer system that was developed by Mr. Gurley.  All students are currently studying integers in their math class.

  • Jumping over flash card hurdles
  • Sprinting to create spreadsheets
  • Dashing through databases
  • Hitting the bulls eye target on technology knowledge

Teams were scored using a rubric that was shared with the students before the events started.

Students also solve open-ended questions after reading about the 2000 Olympic "Green" Games.
