Overview
Teachers Connect has developed this online staff development class as
its first module in a series that introduces educators to a variety of educational
technology topics which include web-based activity structures, Connectivities. These
classes are taught through activity based lessons using the rich resources available
through the Internet. By participation as students, teachers will better understand
and have experience in utilizing the elements of effective online courses. North
Carolina educators will become active members of this new learning
environment. The goal of these courses is to facilitate the enhanced use
of technologies in classes through lessons, activities, and collaborative experiences via
the Internet.
Effective learning hinges on the active engagement of students in
constructing their own knowledge and understanding. The goal for this course is for
educators to understand that desktop videoconferencing breaks down classroom walls and
enables students to be involved in meaningful, real life learning through the collection
and sharing of information.
In this course, participants will learn about the role desktop
videoconferencing can play in instructional technology. Participants will:
- Observe the educational value of desktop videoconference
- Install and configure
telecommunications software
- Participate with other educators in discussion forums,
chats, and videoconferences
- Set up computer with software and hardware needed for
videoconferencing
- Organize a videoconference event that networks
student/teacher with presenters as a class project.
